We all love our jewelry pieces (maybe a little too much!), and taking a few little steps can keep them shiny for longer. This guide will aid you in maintaining your Jewels by Nimisha pieces in good condition for as long as possible. There are a variety of factors that can affect the wear and tear of your jewelry, therefore it's important to remember that it's delicate and should be treated with care so you can enjoy it for many years to come.

Although vermeil and sterling silver jewelry are amazing for everyday use, just be aware that vermeil is a plating that can tarnish over time due to the natural effects of oxidation on its sterling silver base. The same can happen to sterling silver jewelry as well. But LUCKILY, if you clean and maintain your jewelry regularly, those signs of age can typically be removed.

DAY TO DAY PREVENTIVE CARE:

  • Hold onto that ring before you ruin your bling! Remove rings when washing your hands, doing the dishes, or using lotions.

  • Avoid showering, swimming, or working out in your jewels.

  • Put your jewelry on last when getting ready! Perfumes, lotions, and some cosmetics can accelerate tarnishing. Let these items settle into your skin before putting on your jewelry.

  • When you are not wearing your jewelry, it's very important to store it in a sealed zip lock bag or jewelry case especially sterling silver as it will oxidize when comes in contact with air.

  • Store like items together. Do not store gold plating, rose gold plating, or sterling silver together. The different metals will cause each other to tarnish or fade colors. Ensure separate dry spaces for each.

  • Do not keep jewelry in direct sunlight. Extreme temperatures and strong UV rays can cause gemstones to fade in color and shine.

  • Be mindful of any knocks or bumps when wearing semi-precious gemstones.

CLEANING TIPS:

Although preventive care tips are similar to maintain the shine of different metals, Cleaning them requires separate attention-

Cleaning Vermeil Jewelry-

Because of the nature of vermeil, it's critical not to rub the surface too hard, as this might cause the gold plating to wear away, uncovering the sterling silver base underneath. You can clean your vermeil jewelry by following the process below:

  • Gently rub the surface of your jewelry with cotton or soft cloth to remove all the dirt.

  • If your jewelry needs more cleaning, you can also rinse with plain water and gently pat it dry.

Cleaning Sterling Silver Jewelry-

Because sterling silver is the actual metal (rather than a plating), it can be cleaned with a few more powerful solutions, such as those listed below:

Lemon/soap water method:

  • Use mild soap/ lemon and lukewarm water and soak your piece in the solution for 5 minutes.

  • Gently scrub your piece with a soft-bristled toothbrush or with your fingers. Make sure to really focus on the areas with the most build-up.

  • Gentry pat your piece dry with a soft cloth.

  • Rinse and repeat if needed.

Toothpaste Remedy:

  • Put toothpaste on your jewels. (Colgate is recommended)

  • Wipe it off with cotton while gently scrubbing it.

  • Rinse after with warm water.

  • We recommend this option if you are having a difficult time removing the stain with the steps above.

Important note: Make sure not to put any pressure on the wire-wrapped portion of the jewelry while cleaning/scrubbing, as it is quite fragile and should be handled with care.

ENJOY YOUR PIECES !!
